Congratulations to the 2009 International students.  Tertiary studies for all students!

Open Day Excitement!

The international student area was again the highlight attraction for visiting families and friends at the recent College Open Day.  Many thanks to the girls for their initiative and for proudly shared their culture with displays, food and activities for all ages.

Boarding House Holiday Activities

The girls in the Boarding House enjoyed a variety of entertaining and cultural experiences during the recent holidays including ice-skating, National Institute of Circus Arts, Melbourne Museum Comedy Night, Movies, Shopping Tours, Yoga, Picnics ...

Some comments from the students reflect those experiences:

I'm very happy that we went to ice-skating.  It was awesome!  I really want to go there again and having fun with everyone. - Cathy

Many people don't know how to ice-skate but we keep doing our best.  We would fall down but Cathy didn't and kept skating around.  The other girls and I didn't give up.  We held onto each other and it was really scary.  My cousin came to the boarding house to stay with me overnight and she also came ice-skating.  She said it was really fun and hopes she can come again.  I hope we can go ice-skating again. - Phoebe

One night during the Easter holidays we all went to see Veritas at the National Institute of Circus Arts.  The show was great and the actors all had very high skills.  Also the story of the show was interesting and meaningful.  The background music and video was very fitting to the show - Nancy

During Easter holidays we went to Melbourne Museum at night as part of the holiday activities.  The show last 1 hour and we were guided by comedians through different sections of animals, insects, dinosaurs and marine life.  We were introduced to the ugliest, laziest fish ever in the Marine section, the Blobfish.  Australia's got the ugliest and funniest looking fish.  Can you believe that?  The show was filled with laughter and jokes. - Binh

Welcomed Visitors (always)

It is a great thrill when past students return to the College to say hello and tell us about their plans and experiences.  Recently, Jing and Sarah dropped in.  Both girls are studying Commerce, Jing at Melbourne Uni and Sarah at Deakin Uni.

The girls took a little time to adjust to being "visitors" with ID tags rather than Mater girls.

2009 College Dux Presentation:  The 2009 College Dux, LU Dan was not able to be present at the recent Presentation Assembly.  However, Dan was able to send a video of her acceptance speech.  Students and staff were again moved by her gracious, humble and inspired words.  We congratulate Dan again on her outstanding academic achievement and her lasting contribution to the life of the College.  Dan will commence her Commerce studies at the University of Melbourne later this month.

University of Melbourne Award

presented by

Prime Minister's wife

Ms Therese Rein

Congratulations to Dan Lu who received the University of Melbourne Academic Excellence Award.  The award was presented at a College assembly by Therese Rein, the wife of Australia's Prime Minister.

Dan from Shaoguan City, China has been an exceptional student in all of her studies, her consistent hard work and willingness to seek assistance when needed has led to outstanding results through the year.

It was an honour for the College to welcome Ms Rein who is a prominent supporter of disability groups and a very successful business leader.

In an inspiring and inviting address to the assembly Ms Rein encouraged the students to "work and strive in the service of something bigger than you are – something that you believe in" and to "listen to that tiny voice inside that speaks of your hopes and dreams".
