Last Term, I was lucky enough to be accepted into the Work Experience Program at the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) Base in East Sale. Through this program, eight other students and I had the opportunity to live two normal days being part of the Air Force.

Over the two days, we wore flight suits, participated in Physical Training, used some of the Pilot and ATC (Air Traffic Control) simulators, saw some of the engineering of the planes, ate in the Mess, and stayed in the base’s accommodation. We visited the ATC Tower, the OTS (Officers Training School), the CFS (Central Flying School), the shooting range and had a tour of the base. We were guided by six current students and officers in transit, with whom we could talk and ask questions.

This experience gave me a great insight into what a career in aviation looks like, the work environment, and career options of the Air Force while learning and being challenged with tasks relating to aviation jobs.
