Six Year 9 students are taking part in a new program, CHOOSEMATHS Mentoring, organised by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI).
The aim of the program is to change community attitudes and participation in Mathematics and statistics as a career choice, especially for girls and young women.
Yesterday the students joined an online meeting with three of their mentors. Two of the mentors are researchers at the University of Melbourne and the third is a research scientist at IBM. All spoke of how they used Mathematics in their work.
Our next meeting is in two weeks and in the meantime, our students have access to a discussion board where they can ask questions, make and respond to comments and complete weekly tasks.
