During our last week in Beijing, we have been participating in further cultural and language activities.
Early in the week, we went to the Forbidden City where we were able to experience what living in Ancient China was like and see the collection of rooms that have been preserved from the Ming and Qing dynasties. On Thursday, we travelled to the Summer Palace where 290 hectares of the best-preserved royal garden in Beijing truly astounded us all. Both these locations are definitely somewhere we all would love to travel back to.
On Friday, our hosts at Beijing Language and Culture University (BCLU) provided a thank you ceremony to celebrate all our learning achievements. This was also an opportunity for student representatives to express their gratitude to the teachers, volunteers and staff from the university for the time and effort they put into ensuring we had a wonderful stay. Through BCLU, we have been able to not only learn, but develop more connections and friendships in China.
On the same day, at the Confucius Institute headquarters, we had the closing ceremony in partnership with HANBAN to show our appreciation for this program. All the students were able to share their highlights and demonstrate their growth in leadership. We all participated in our own expressive performances, for example story telling, video documentaries, dancing, singing and more.
Even though our time in Beijing has come to a close, we are so grateful for how welcoming and encouraging our hosts have been as well as all the memories our visit has provided us. We will miss Beijing a lot and look forward to returning in the future.
