Our Year 8 students have been some of the first students in the Yarra Ranges to experience the new Yarra Ranges Tech School in 2017.
Yarra Ranges Tech School is a high-tech centre with virtual reality technology, robots, 3D printing labs and simulation rooms. Students participated in a robotics session where they responded to a design brief to program a robotic puppy or humanoid to assist children who were hospitalised. Through this brief, our students were able to evaluate current hospital techniques and procedures and suggest new or improved approaches to help improve patient care. They also learned to work as part of a team to ensure a shared goal was achieved. In Semester Two, the program focus is on Electronics.
In 2018, this program will be extended to students in Years 7 and Year 9, providing them with access to exciting equipment and technology and at the same time broadening their knowledge and skills in STEM.
