2026 Go Girls 100km Challenge
In response to the growing prevalence and devastating impact of domestic violence in Australia, Mater Christi College is proud to show support for women and girls affected by taking part in the 2026 Go Girls 100km Challenge at Melbourne Sports Centre’s Lakeside Stadium.
This powerful event will bring together 19 girls’ schools across Victoria, for a relay-style running challenge, united by a shared goal of raising awareness of domestic violence and vital funds for the Go Girls Foundation.
The Go Girls Foundation works to transform the lives of women and children experiencing domestic violence, social isolation and homelessness, providing support and opportunities to build safer, more secure futures.
Mater Christi’s Health and Physical Education Leader, Vicki Godfrey says it was obvious that the challenge would be a great fit for both our students and our College.
“Being part of this initiative serves to educate our students on a critical social issue and empowers them to do something tangible and make a difference in the lives of other girls and women experiencing domestic violence. This action also helps create a sense of hope that together we can raise awareness and drive change.”
With alarming statistics revealing that one woman is murdered by a current or former partner every four days in Australia, Acting Principal, Shae Mayes says the issue must be prioritised in our community.
“The increasing rates of violence against women is very close to our hearts at Mater Christi. As an all-girls school we are very keen to be part of any awareness raising, prevention, and action being taken in this space.
Earlier this year, our Principal, Dr Maria Haggett introduced information sessions for our Year 11 students on Gender Based Violence, for this very reason. Our aim is to ensure our students are aware of the challenges and risks they may face in their lives, and to arm them with the knowledge to protect themselves.
We are extremely proud to be involved in the challenge and to be making a difference for women and girls experiencing this kind of devastating hardship.”
Mater Christi will send five teams (46 students) to the event. Year 10 student Tori says everyone has been busy raising sponsorship money in the lead up to theevent.
“I chose to do the100km challenge with some friends because it is such a meaningful charity. It has been really nice to see all the support from my family and friends with donations. I can't wait for the day and to see everyone dressed up in their team colours. I hope that we can continue to fundraise as much as we can for this special event!”
At the time this article was published, the students had already raised over $8,000.
