Meet Our Staff

Our Deputy Principal – Staff and Students, Shae Mayes, has been in leadership roles, supporting staff and students in an all-girls educational setting for many years. Previously our Head of Senior School and more recently Professional Learning and Pedagogy Leader at the College, Shae has also worked as Year 7 Coordinator and later Year 12 Coordinator at Sacred Heart Girls College in Oakleigh.

Our Deputy Principal – Learning, Julie Stewart, joined Mater Christi after seven years working for Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS). She is a mum to two girls, a teacher and a learner, who is passionate about supporting students to take responsibility for their learning and be the best they can be.

Naomi’s natural spirituality, and her deep empathy and interest in people, have been the undercurrent of her life and teaching journey so far. She strives for balance - to always be present with the students and families she works with, as well as with her own family. She is passionate about equality and embracing diversity in our society, which she believes are the key to a better future for all.

Our Head of Learning Commons, Amy joined Mater Christi in January 2022. While she had been a teacher and involved in libraries for 13 years, this was her first time doing both at once and she has clearly found her niche.

It took our Learning Diversity Leader Justine, a few years to realise teaching washer destiny. Now she draws on her experience in Psychology and passion for inclusive education in a job that is obviously the perfect fit.

With 25 years of dressmaking experience, and a passion for everything creative, Ingrid Schmidt loves every minute of her first teaching position at Mater Christi.

For 49 years, Peter has taught students about the past, in order to help them understand their world, and bring about future change. His passion for teaching shines through in his classrooms and his messages remain with students, well into their lives beyond Mater Christi.

It’s hard to believe that Graham began his career in the IT sector. As all who know him would attest to, he is well and truly called upon to be a teacher. His students love him, he ignites passion and a sense of belonging in them. Not to mention, he sings like an angel.

Mieke is an Honours student at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and has a Degree in Classical Music Composition. She also happens to be a Mater Christi Alumna and was STEAM Captain in 2018.

Fostering development and growth in others is in Denise Raven’s DNA. With over a decade of experience in education, Denise embodies a passion for fostering student growth and success, particularly in Science and STEM education. Likewise, her recent appointment as Professional Growth Leader at the College represents her belief in the importance of continued learning and development for our teachers.

Leading by example, our NEW YEAR 7 LEARNING LEADER, Julie Colyer says her “hope and vision for our Year 7 students this year is that they will show their true and authentic character, try new things and stretch themselves.”

Our Facilities Manager - Dan (The Man) Godfrey - joined the Mater Christi community just three months ago and is already making his mark, having recently organised a student tree-planting activity as part of National Tree Day.

Fond memories of her time as a student Mater Christi led Amanda Bischof-Foster back to the College as a teacher in 2005, and she hasn’t looked back.
