Australian Basketball Championships

Mater Christi College is thrilled to be sending two teams to compete at the Australian School Basketball Championships on the Gold Coast this December.

With the national competition fast approaching, both teams and their coaches are busy preparing and looking forward to the opportunity to represent Mater Christi on the national stage.

“Having the opportunity to represent Mater Christi College on the national stage is something the Intermediate team is incredibly proud of, and they’re determined to make the most of it,” said Intermediate team Coach Mr Armansin.

Junior team Coach Ms Lovat said her players were equally excited as the countdown continues.

“The Junior team is feeling excited and ready as they count down to the championships. They’ve been training hard, pushing each other and making the most of every opportunity to improve.”

The opportunity has been made possible with the support of a number of local businesses, led by Gold Sponsors MBM Plumbing and GJK Facility Services, who have each contributed generously towards the teams’ campaign.

“We are incredibly grateful to have such an amazing array of sponsors supporting us on this journey,” said Sports Coordinator Ms Morris. “Opportunities like this come at a significant cost, and having these companies on board helps alleviate some of the financial burden for the athletes and their families.”

Mater Christi is also grateful for the substantial contributions of Silver Sponsors Crown Ventura and Safety Express Logistics.

Their collectives upport is a wonderful demonstration of the spirit and generosity of the wider Mater Christi community.

Both teams are now training during lunchtimes and after school as they count down the days until they fly to the Gold Coast, where they will compete from 29 November to 4 December.

They will also arrive looking the part! Thanks to Uniform Group, the players will be decked out in specially branded training tops and hoodies, while the College’s sponsors will also provide the teams with a range of branded items, including backpacks, drink bottles and more. Staff and students will stay hydrated and energised thanks to a range of snacks and drinks generously donated by Belgrave South IGA.

For Intermediate team member Jess, the excitement is already building.

“I’m honestly so keen for nationals. It’s such a surreal feeling knowing we are competing on the big stage. The team and I are all especially looking forward to rocking up in our Mater merch thanks to our sponsors who made that happen—and not only stealing the show on the court but looking good while doing it.”

With training well underway, community support behind them, and the Gold Coast beckoning, our Junior and Intermediate teams are ready to proudly represent Mater Christi on the national stage.

We look forward to providing our community with updates along this exciting journey!
