CLASS OF 2024 SPOTLIGHT - Emma Costello

“Stay organised, manage your time, and prioritise self-care. Set realistic goals, stay consistent, and seek support when needed. Year 12 is challenging, but with dedication, you'll succeed and grow.”

The key to success for our 2024 VCE VM Dux Emma Costello was no different from that of our other high-achieving Year 12 students. She broke down tasks into manageable chunks, prioritised deadlines, utilised the support and expertise of her teachers, and remained consistent with her studies.

With the goal of working in childcare, Emma says the VCE VM pathway was perfect for her.

“I chose the VM Pathway because it offered a practical, hands-on approach to learning that aligned with my interests and career goals. It provided real-world experience and a clear pathway to further education and work, making it a great fit for my strengths.”

Emma looks back fondly on her years at Mater Christi College, and believes her experience helped her grow as a person and develop the confidence and resilience to succeed.

“My journey at Mater Christi was transformative. Over my time there, I became more confident, independent, and resilient. I learned to manage challenges, work with others, and embrace new opportunities. I gained academic knowledge, built lasting friendships, and developed essential life skills. The supportive environment and dedicated teachers helped me grow personally and academically, preparing me for future challenges and opportunities. It was an unforgettable and enriching experience.”

Emma extends her thanks to all her Year 12 teachers for their encouragement, wisdom, and commitment, which played a key role in helping her become her ‘best self’ in her final year.

After studying VCE VM Literacy, Personal Development, and Work-Related Skills alongside a VET Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, Emma secured a job at a local early childcare centre at the beginning of 2025. She is loving her job and hopes to do some travelling over the coming years.
