Spotlight on the Class of 2025 - Imogen Edgar (VCE VM Dux)
One of the greatest lessons Immy says she learnt at Mater Christi is how to manage the ups and downs of life.
“I learnt so many incredibly important lessons at Mater, that will stick with me forever. There is always going to be ups and downs, but at Mater I learnt how to communicate with others, recognise when I need help, and how to reach out.”
Immy commenced at MaterChristi as a ‘very nervous’ Year 7 and while she is still nervous trying new things, she says she has learnt how to manage those emotions and has become a stronger person.
“I learnt what I am willing to accept through friendships and relationships in my life. I developed my morals and perspectives further, which have guided me to be surrounded with the people I am today.”
As a hands-on learner who understands content and concepts better if she is physically doing something, Immy chose the VCE-VM pathway to a career in Nursing, because it was the best fit for her.
“I always asked lots of questions and those questions guided my perceptions and understanding. By talking about content, I was able to retain information better.”
Immy credits her VCE VM success to the support and example set by her family, as well as the encouragement and support she received from all her teachers.
“Mrs Edwards helped me in so many ways. She supported and encouraged my goals and my decision to do VCE VM and a VET course in Allied Health. My VCE VM teachers Ms McAdam, Ms Kutt, Ms Jay, and Ms Rivaloro were always willing to answer my questions and give extra support and help. I really felt that they truly cared about me, my interests and learning. I’m beyond grateful.”
This year, Immy is studying a Diploma of Nursing at Box Hill Institute, while working in a Chiropractic clinic and at a retail store. Following her Diploma, she plans to move into a Bachelor of Nursing at university and eventually work in emergency or as a paramedic.
