Spotlight on the Class of 2025 - Mel Weinzettl
“From the moment I arrived at Mater Christi, I was welcomed. The sense of community is something really special. The experience challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, build new relationships, and strive for excellence in my studies.”
Mel’s strategy for her final year of study clearly demonstrates her level of motivation and commitment to her goals.
"I tried to stay at least one lesson ahead whenever possible. As most of my subjects were memory-based, I focused on active recall. I used an app to convert my notes into flash cards and practised them every day to consolidate my knowledge.”
Mel credits her English teacher, Jen McAdam, with having a significant impact on her and providing valuable support.
“There was something about Ms McAdam’s energy — the enthusiasm and warmth she brought into the room — that made it such a positive place to learn. She created an environment where everyone felt supported and encouraged to do their best.
Her passion for teaching was genuine, and it had a real impact on our class. If everyone carried even a little of Ms McAdam’s kindness and optimism, the world would truly be a better place — and that is something I strive to embody in my own life each day.”
Mel acknowledges that Year 12 is challenging and offers the following advice to current and future Year 12 students:
“It’s essential not to sacrifice meaningful time with family and friends entirely for the sake of your studies. Find what recharges your battery! And…enjoy Year 12! Challenges are made to be overcome, and ultimately, they make you a better person!
In 2026, Mel is taking a gap year and plans to do ‘lots of travel’. She also hopes to secure a cadetship to become a pilot!
